Easy Do It Yourself Cosmetic Recipes

Many ingredients in commercial cosmetics are not beneficial for our overall health and well-being. You can learn to make your own chemical free, non-hazardous natural cosmetic products. Experiment with these low cost, organic cosmetics.

The following recipes use natural ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen and bath.

Color

To make color for your products, you can use herbs and spices to achieve the desired color. For earthy colored makeup, use 3 parts cinnamon, 2 parts paprika, ½ part powdered walnut hull tincture. Mix more or less until the desired color is achieved. For lighter colors, you can use ginger root powder. For red colors, use beetroot powder. If you get a color too dark, lighten it with cornstarch. With so many different herbs and spices, many different colors can be mixed and matched. Mix a batch of color together and jar it. Make sure they are powdered very fine, if they are not, they will grainy in your product. A mortar and pestle works great for this.

Face Powder

Phase A

½ tsp jojoba oil

2 drops any essential oil

Phase B

8 tsp cornstarch

1/8 - ¼ tsp color to your complexion

Pour the two oils of Phase A into a mortar. Combine the ingredients of Phase B in a separate jar and stir thoroughly. Slowly add Phase B to Phase A while continuously stirring with a pestle. Keep stirring until the mixture becomes homogenous. Pour into a powder container. If you press it down, it will be cake-like powder as in the store.

Lipstick

Phase A

1Tbsp castor oil

½ tsp carnauba wax

½ tsp beeswax

Phase B

1/8 tsp vegetable glycerin

¼ tsp wheat germ oil

½ tsp color (use as much needed to achieve the color desired)

Combine Phase A ingredients in heat resistant jar and place in a hot water bath. Melt slowly. Do not overheat. Combine Phase B in a separate jar. Add Phase B to Phase A and stir until well mixed. Pour into containers. If using lipstick molds, this will make 2 lipsticks. (Pour half in one and half in the other). You can pour this into any container.

If your lipstick is too hard, remelt and add more castor oil. (The wax or color content is too high). If too soft, add more wax. Go easy on the wax, it is easy to use too much and your lipstick will not spread.

Lip Gloss/Balm

Phase A

1Tbsp castor oil

1 tsp beeswax

Phase B

4 drops wheat germ oil (vitamin E)

1 drop grapefruit seed extract (natural preservative)

Combine Phase A ingredients in heat resistant jar and place in a hot water bath. Melt slowly. Do not overheat. Combine Phase B in a separate jar. Add Phase B to Phase A and stir until well mixed. Pour into containers.

Blush/Eye Shadow

Phase A

½ tsp jojoba oil

2 drops essential oil (optional)

Phase B

4 tsp cornstarch

1 -2 tsp color (see color)

Pour Phase A into mortar. Phase B goes into a separate jar and mixed. Slowly combine both phases stirring constantly. Mix until it becomes homogenous. Pour into container.

These organic cosmetics are the best, natural makeup that you can make on your own. These ingredients are low cost and will give you an opportunity to get in touch with your creative side. Experiment, my dear, experiment!
