It is rather surprising, but so many of us wear the wrong make-up for our skin color. This is especially the case during the summer months when some of us have a tan. However, it doesn't matter what color you are, or how tanned you have managed to get, there are colors out there to suit you, and all you have to do is find them!
If you are fair-skinned and have either got very little or no tan, less make-up is better. Try swapping your usual foundation with a tinted moisturizer. You get a glossier finish with this, and the look will make you appear to have better skin and more fresh faced. Foundation can look like you are wearing too much make-up, especially if you haven't got the right shade, and a tinted moisturizer will look better and will also give your skin time to breathe.
Gold eye shadows suit fair skin, especially with hardly any tan. Try using a darker shade of bronze close to your lash line instead of kohl or eyeliner, and this will give you extra definition without it looking as though you have tried too hard. The same applies to bronzer or blusher as well. Use a powder over you cream to keep it intact during the heat, and use one lighter color for all over your face to give a healthy glow, with a hint of a darker shade on your brow bone and your cheeks.
If you have more olive skin, bronzing gel under your foundation will give you a really fresh looking glow, and try mixing together a lighter foundation with a slightly darker one with a hint of sparkle to get a better, tanned and healthy looking glow. Blending your eyes and your usual eye shadow properly will give your eyes a defined finish, and will also suit the summer and your tan more. Smoky eyes work better on olive skin with a hint of tan, but too much will make you look cheap, so less is definitely more. Again, a bit of blending and the look will be more classy lady than trashy lady!
Medium skin tones suit bright colors beautifully, so with the bright summer sun should come the bright colors. Electric blue is a great and modern color to use, and when done in the right way will make you look bright eyed and beautiful instead of an eighties reject. Hold a tissue under the eyes while applying these bright shades to stop it falling onto the rest of your face, and keep your lips neutral, otherwise the make-up will just be too much! A peachy colored lip gloss works well with bright colors and try to match the lip gloss or tint to your natural lip color.
At the end of the day, there are colors out there to suit all skin colorings and all shades of tan, and when the sun comes out to play, there has never been a better excuse to experiment with bolder and also more understated colors than to try and match your make-up to your tan!
